The book arrived on time like it said and the price is reasonable. "Used books" from amazon definitely help me save a lot of money. If i was to buy this used book at the college's bookstore, it would cost me twice amount of money. Plus it's in good condition when I received it so I'm a happy customer.

Nice compilation of articles

It was a compilation of many articles that I found over the internet in doing research into the topic. It was nice to have all the details in one location but not a lot of new content. Was worth the money to anyone who just got a RTL-SDR dongle and wants a single place to to read how to use it rather than search around for the information via search engines. I noted that a lot of people got the dongles for the RTL-SDR purpose and were frustrated in figuring how to use it. This book is for them.

It's obvious that Carl Laufer is very knowledgeable and spent a great amount of time to compile this guide to SDR. I read the majority of the book prior to ordering my hardware. His advice and expertise allowed me to make prudent purchases allowing me to get started on a shoe string budget. I have enjoyed the hobby for a few weeks now and largely in part due to this guide my experience is progressing along very well. The book can be somewhat technical at times, but since I already have a decades long background in radio and computers this has allowed me to marry both into a rewarding and challenging hobby - Software Defined Radio. I heartily endorse this guide. FYI I purchased the Kindle version.

Great book

I just wanted to say that I think this is a great book and a must buy for both Ken Shamrock and mixed martial arts fans. Please do not believe the hype from some of the other reviews stating that the book is unduly biased. That simply is not true. Mr. Shamrock openly reveals his mistakes in his losses and does not ridicule or down grade any opponent, ie: he speaks well of the Gracies, explains what caused the personal frictions between him and Dan Severn. Many times people confuse confidence with cockiness, as the great Muhammad Ali used to say, "It ain't braggin if you can do it!" Being the first King of Pancrase, and the first Superfight Champion, Ken Shamrock was the best mixed martial artist in the world; he has definitely proven that he can do what he says. Yes Ken Shamrock is confident, but he is not arrogant. Many interesting insights you'll learn about his personal life, the politics of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, his fighting style, and the Lion's Den. Buy it if you're a fan of Ken Shamrock!

This is a great book

This is a great book. It is a great and informative book, while not being boring. Anyone who reads this book can easily appreciate what he has gone through to get where he is, and it is encouraging to people who will also need to go through alot to get to somewhere better.

Wonderful Insight Into The Man Personally & Professionally

This book will not only intrigue fans of all types of fighting styles that Ken Shamrock has competed in, it will also serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for all.

The book is creatively and effectively divided into two parts. The first half is ghost written, or at least co-authored, and chronicles Ken's life. It is a brief, yet very thorough and captivating life story.

The second half is a nuts and bolts introduction to all aspects of competing in mixed martial arts - from eating to strength training to technique.

"Inside The Lion's Den" is more than just a book about a tough guy who won some fighting contests and became a pro wrestler. "Inside The Lion's Den" delves deep into the trials and tribulations that chronicle Ken's awkward upbringing. His childhood was far from, "The Cosby Show" yet it is explained in a way that is quite unlike most biographies of high profile stars that claim of such horrible childhood life.

Too often are we subjected to a "Where Are They Now" documentary by some celebrity telling us that they were mentally abused, or how their horribly painful past forced them into a drug plagued life. Ken Shamrock doesn't mirror this all to common pattern. He simply tells about his life - and it doesn't appear to be one that most of us would have wanted at times.

The second half of the book can, and will, put any reader who isn't a professional athlete or combatant into shape. One will be surprised at the amount of inside information that Shamrock shares. I've met many mixed martial artists and several of them couldn't complete the training regimen that is covered here.

Some have belittled Shamrock for having the book co-authored, but that is a very unfair criticism. Ken Shamrock is a master fighter - an athlete - a competitor. He has a great story to share with us. Does any of that make him qualified to transfer that to paper and deliver it in a manner that is entertaining and interesting? No.

That is no disrespect to Ken. He is a master at what he does. And he is very smart for having a co-author. I would assume that Ken, and most of you, have an accountant prepare your taxes. We all bring in experts to handle tasks for us. There is no shame in that.

Professional wrestlers have amazing stories to tell and they are finally being shared with us all.

the Sanctuary Saga concludes

Poison Elves Volume 7: Salvation collects issues 26-39 of the Sirius-published Poison Elves series, and concludes the long running Sanctuary storyline.

For those of you unfamiliar with this excellent (and criminally underrated) series, Poison Elves is the story of an elf named Lusiphur. Now, before you get visions in your head of pretty-boy elves like Legolas or those Elfquest characters, you should know that Lusiphur (Luse, as he's known to the few people he likes well enough not to have killed) is not that kind of elf. He's a street fighting, hard drinking, mercenary/assassin described by his creator as (and I'm paraphrasing here) "having the temperament of a rattlesnake and the ability to deliver sarcasm faster than lightning hits the ground." Sound intriguing? Drew Hayes is a master storyteller, and besides getting a great non-traditional fantasy story, there is plenty of social commentary and very relevant, very cutting observations. Drew was doing this kind of thing long before Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, et al made it commonplace. And his artwork is terrific too.

Salvation wraps up the (very) long-running Sanctuary saga. In Poison Elves, Volume Five: Sanctuary (Poison Elves), Luse joins Sanctuary, a secret guild of assassins and thieves, and finds true love. You know how rare that is for someone like Lusiphur, so you can tell this means something. At the same time, Luse's pal Jace joins the Blood Guard, an elite police task force assigned to bring down Sanctuary.

Poison Elves, Volume Six: Guild War (Poison Elves) finds Luse captured by a rival guild, and the subsequent war between guilds. Not to mention the first conflict between Sanctuary and the Blood Guard. This volume also sees the involvement of the Elven High Wizard known as Tenth, Luse's ex-wife (and a powerful sorceress in her own right) Hyena, and the return of Widowmaker.

Oh, and Jace inadvertently causes Luse's new love to die.

In Salvation, Luse blasts his way out of Sanctuary and begins hunting down any member of the Blood Guard he can find, working his way up to a confrontation with Jace. In some ways, the Sanctuary saga ended with Cassie's death. This is really just the aftermath. It's a tale of bloody revenge, love, loss, and friendship...with the occasional Purple Marauder appearance and a temporary (but hysterical) sex change for the main character. You have to read it to believe it.

I can't recommend this series highly enough. When you're ready to take a break from "comics as usual", you owe it to yourself to check this series out. My recommendation is to pick up volume 5 first, as it provides an excellent introduction to the series. When you finish that one, you'll no doubt want to go back and read volumes 1-4.

NOTE: This book has a cover price of less than twenty bucks, and shouldn't be that hard to find. You may want to keep that in mind when you see people selling it for some ungodly amount.

Dramatic Conclusion

This dramatic conclusion of the Sanctuary Tale was a great suprise! It threw everything you were expecting out of the window. Learn what Tenth has up his sleeve for Luse, and learn what happens to the rest of the Sanctuary gang. I stand behind this choice 100%.
