Christ Our Righteousness, by J. W.

The loud cry of the third angel of Revelation 14:9 is the last message according to the book of Revelation. There will be no greater message sent from God than this precious truth—the message of Christ our righteousness. According to Revelation 18:1, this final message will lighten the earth with the glory (character) of God, bringing to a close God’s final work upon the earth. This book presents a solid foundation for the various aspects of Christ our righteousness, comparing popular teachings on the subject with the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White. It points out the importance of incorporating these principles into our own experience. When God’s people truly take hold of this most encouraging and hopeful message, it will lead to genuine revival and reformation. Then God will pour out His Spirit and enable us to proclaim the Loud Cry of the Third Angel.

So Fast, So Easy Pressure Cooker Cookbook: More Than 725 Fresh, Delicious Recipes for Electric and Stovetop Pressure Cookers, by Beth Hens

The only pressure cooker cookbook--for electric and stovetop pressure cookers--you'll ever need!

What's not to love about the pressure cooker? Using pressure created by super-heated steam, the pressure cooker can cut cook times by 70 percent, meaning dinner is on the table faster, and with significantly less energy use. Your dinner will be more nutrient-rich because vitamins and other good things won't be lost in evaporating steam. And it will taste delicious and succulent because none of the food's moisture has been allowed to escape. Finally, today's modern pressure cooker has been re-engineered for safety and ease of use, including the development of the electric pressure cooker.

Because no moisture evaporates during cooking, conventional stovetop recipes do not work in the pressure cooker. For success, the pressure cooker requires different food to liquid ratios and because of that superheated pressure, cook times are very precise. With this comprehensive guide, the busy cook can use fresh ingredients to create more than 700 tasty recipes developed for and scrupulously tested and retested for the pressure cooker.

  • Chapters on Poultry, Pork, Beef & Veal, Lamb & Game, and Seafood include Zinfandel-braised short ribs that cook in just 30 minutes, herb-stuffed whole turkey breast and braised lamb shanks ready in 25 minutes, and baby back ribs that pressure-cook in just 15 minutes.
  • Individual chapters on grains, beans, rice dishes (including risotto and breakfast rice), potatoes, chili, and tomato sauces (with and without meat), as well as on soups, vegetables, desserts, making your own baby food, and much more.
  • An introductory chapter explains the ins and outs of the pressure cooker, with valuable tips and advice. The authors also include recipes for lots of basics, such as how to cook different types of rice and varieties of dried beans.

    Review
"Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann have done it again! So Fast, So Easy Pressure Cooker Cookbook is a treasure trove of delicious recipes, including 7-minute risottos, 5-minute chilis, and hearty stews ready in just 15 minutes. This book is a winner for anyone who is just starting out with the pressure cooker, as well as for more experienced cooks looking for fresh and exciting recipes for this wonderful cooker." (Diane Phillips author, The Everyday Rice Cooker 2015-09-30)

"I confess. I own a French cocotte (pressure cooker) that I've never used. I've been too scared. Now, with this deeply intelligent and knowledgeable book at my side, I'm ready to do what I've watched my French friends do with aplomb for years: cook with a pressure cooker. I'll be making rich, deeply flavored beef stock in 1 hour instead of 12, and whipping up an unctuous dish of Veal Marengo in less than 15 minutes. Soup for dinner? Give me 5 to 7 minutes. I can't say enough good things about this book. The opening chapter, all about pressure cookers, is alone worth the price of the book." (Georgeanne Brennan owner, La Vie Rustic-Sustainable Living in the French Style and author, Williams Sonoma Essentials of French Cooking 2015-09-25)

"I've read every page of this terrific new book, and every single recipe. It is a consummate guide to the technical aspects of the pressure cooker, providing answers to any question one could conceivably have about this important--and overlooked--piece of equipment all of us should own in the interest of energy conservation. The recipes are masterful and inspired. Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann are from the old school of cookbook writers who speak to you from a profound base of knowledge, love, and understanding about the art, history, and science of cooking. So Fast, So Easy Pressure Cooker Cookbook offers delectable and inspired food for the home cook." (Julie Della Croce author Italian Home Cooking 2015-09-28)

"Do you have a hankering for soul-satisfying comfort food, but think you don't have the time? Of course you do. The solution is a pressure cooker. Beth Hensperger (the queen of machine cuisine) and Julie Kaufmann have paired up to teach you absolutely everything you need to know about this indispensable kitchen tool, be it an old school model or a 'third generation' electric cooker. The introductory chapter on all things pressure cooker alone is worth the price of the book! With over 725 recipes, you will never be at a loss for scrumptious and fast meals." (Rick Rodgers author, The Big Book of Sides 2015-09-24)

    By Amazon Customer
This book is fabulous! In addition to giving you every possible detail about how to use a pressure cooker, it has so many mouthwatering recipes I hardly know where to begin! No, I do know--Greengrocer's Chili, a veggie chili that will be a go-to cold weather meal. And there are so many other great recipes, many for things you never knew you could cook in a pressure cooker. Don't worry, if pressure cookers aren't your thing, you can always make these recipes in your everyday pots and pans and just cook a little longer--easily adaptable!

    Love it!
    By Joni Watling
This book just arrived today and I've not had opportunity to cook from it yet. However, as a fan of Hensperger's prior work I can say this book doesn't disappoint. One whole section just devoted to chili! Lots of great ideas for flavorful soups and broths. The dessert section is so-so (no biggie to me since I'm not a big dessert person) but the rest of the book is packed full of information, details, new recipes and variations of favorites. I'll update after having a chance to actually make something. But from my hands on experience so far with using a pressure cooker, this book is right on.

So far, I'm really impressed with this book. I got a pressure cooker for xmas this year and have taken a number of PC cookbooks out of the library. This one is really comprehensive and has many many useful recipes. I think it'll be the "go-to reference" for pressure cooker cooks! I'm 150% happy with this purchase.

Country on the Move: Migration to and within Israel, 1948-1995 (GeoJournal Library), by Gabriel Lipshitz

Country on the Move presents original research and a comprehensive multidisciplinary analysis of the spatial aspects of migration. It considers the spatial results of two diametrically opposed policies: planning from above to settle the North African and Asian newcomers in the 1950s, and planning by market forces for immigrants from the former Soviet Union in the 1990s. Unlike other books on immigration, Country on the Move also analyzes internal migration within Israel, which is an outcome of the regional disparities produced by immigration. Moreover, it compares the empirical findings in Israel with international trends, and its analysis can serve as a foundation for setting spatial immigration policy.
Audience: Researchers specializing in population geography, migration, and regional development; university students on all levels who are taking courses in these subjects; and top officials in government ministries that deal with immigration.

My name is Aram, by William Saroyan

William Saroyan's most celebrated work of short fiction- a boy's view of the American Dream. Aram Garoghlanian was a Californian, born in Fresno on the other side of the Southern Pacific tracks. But he was also part of a large, sprawling family of immigrant Armenians--a whole tribe of eccentric uncles, brawling cousins, and gentle women. Through these unforgettable, often hilarious characters Aram comes to understand life, courage, and the power of dreams. Whether it is fierce Uncle Khosrove who yells "Pay no attention to it" in any situation, Uncle Melik, who tries to grow pomegranate trees in the desert, or angelic-looking Cousin Arak who gets Arma into classroom scrapes, Aram's visions are shaped and colored by this tum-of-the-century clan. Like Sherwood Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio, William Saroyan's brilliant short stories in My Name Is Aram work together to create a picture of a time, a place, and a boy's world-a truly classic account of an impoverished family newly arrived in America-rich in matters of the heart.

This is a great book, and its stories of childhood life in a small Central Valley town still resonates strongly today.

This book, along with "The Human Comedy", comprises the essential William Saroyan experience. I would rate this book slightly below "The Human Comedy" in terms of the nature of the stories and the development they undergo -- but in Saroyan-land, even underdevelopment is superior to most other authors. This book is a series of seemingly disconnected short stories involving a small cast of characters, so you can read a chapter, put it down, and not have that feeling of incompleteness that George Lucas always left you with at the end of each Star Wars movie. Just one of the stories was worth the cost of the book -- the teflon cousin who breezes through life in the classroom with the blame for all of his sins somehow falling onto those nearby. No, he doesn't get his comeuppance, but the accusers (a classroom teacher and a principal) somehow get theirs, and in an completely unexpected and humorous way.

    My Name Is Aram

I am a high school student, and we read an excerpt from this book in our literature class. I immediately was intrigued by Saroyan's method of writing and the fact that his novels are autobiographical. This is a story of Aram Garoghlanian, a boy living in Fresno with his large family of Armenian immigrants. Throughout the book, such ideas are touched upon as maturity, honesty, and acceptance. My Name is Aram is a portrait not only of Aram Garoghlanian and William Saroyan himself, but Americans in general. Americans struggle with basic values and ideas everyday, and accepting our eccentric family members is something we learn to do. Saroyan describes small details in hi writing that bring the story to life and open up a new world. Readers will soon realize when they open this novel that each of us holds Aram inside us, whether it means we struggle with the idea of stealing a horse or keeping the families reputation. I strongly recommend this book to anyone.

    Excellent book
    By A Customer
The book is composed of different events that happened in the author's life. It is the life of an Armenian immigrant family in the beautiful San Juaquin Valley. Although, the story is about events that are happening in a particular Armenian family, in reality it is the life all immigrants in America. The stories some how effects all Americans. I am positive that some where in our lifetime we were criticized for a certain cultural trait. It is the story of the ultimate underdog who is determined to succeed. At the same time it is a very fun and easy book to read. I could not put the book down.
Saroyan has to be the best writer to come out of the West. He should have been recognized more for his genius work.

    From Publishers Weekly
In an ambitious effort that is equal parts history, sensationalized gossip and political expos‚, London Sunday Times investigative reporters Levy and Scott-Clark trace the winding path of the so-called "Stone of Heaven." The story begins in 1735, when jade-obsessed Chinese emperor Qianlong endeavors to extend China's reach into present-day Burma, reputed to contain the world's finest jade. Over time the infatuation with jade also infects French and British colonials, adventurers, Chinese gangsters, Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong, all of whom energetically loot the Imperial Court's treasures. Descriptions and provenances of legendary jade pieces (some of which are lost for centuries at a time) are given at length. Among the history's cast of characters is bad-girl Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, who receives a tabloid treatment of her jade collection, marriages, sexual misadventures and profligate spending. But the history, the gossip, even the sensational stories of the depredations of the indigenous tribes who fiercely protected their secret jade mines, pale in comparison to the authors' visit to Burma. Risking their lives, Levy and Scott-Clark pose as gemologists and, with guile, courage and bribery, reach Hpakant, home to the mines. There they find hundreds of thousands of destitute people virtually enslaved amid prostitution, government-sponsored heroin addiction, and "jade disease, or AIDS." The story of the quest for jade ends abruptly in a kind of hell, rendered as astutely as the excesses in this intriguing history. 40 b&w photos. This book's various elements rest uneasily together; no doubt, most readers will be lured by the romance of jade, but in fact the book's strongest point is its horrifying conclusion.

    From Booklist
This mesmerizing chronicle interweaves legend, mythology, and history with a shocking contemporary expose of the Burmese jadeite mines. Before visiting the deplorable mining pits in Myanmar (formerly Burma), the authors embarked on a circuitous research odyssey, retracing the colorful history of the valuable gemstone. Unearthing letters, diaries, and maps and interviewing countless numbers of jewelers and collectors, they pieced together the fascinating tale of a stone so beautiful and exotic that it was said to cast a spell on emperors and commoners alike. Curious as to the current state of the jade industry, they posed as representatives of an Australian mining company to gain permission to visit the so-called Valley of Death, the legendary hills of jadeite in northern Myanmar. Once there, they were shocked to find all the rumors true: the jade mines were a cesspool of abuse, disease, promiscuity, and drug addiction, promoted and sanctioned by the military, the mining companies, and the government. An engrossing combination of narrative history and undercover journalism. Margaret Flanagan

    Far Beyond Imperial Jade
    By Gloria T August
I have given this book away twice because of my own recommendation of it. It is a very important book not just for the story it tells on Imperial Jade but because of it introduces us to the Empress Dowager as we have not experienced her before. One of the most important parts in this story is the visit of the English women (amongst others) to the Empress Dowager. Here we experience the very human side of the Empress Dowager and the hilarious juxtaposition of the English women in accessing this extraordinary woman and how it was that the Empress Dowager saw them. I believe that through books like this and others that we are beginning to see China and the depths of her ordinary and extraordinary people as a wealth shared by no other civilization. This may be a book on imperial jade but it is far, far more and far deeper than that which means this book is a classic.

    An excellent and thorough read
    By Richard Harrold
Levy and Scott-Clark are excellent story tellers, and do they ever have a story to tell. Tracing the history of imperial green jade, or jadeite, they begin in the late 18th century with Chinese emperor Qianlong and 400 rivetting pages later end in present day Myanmar. Along the way the reader is exposed to the unrestrained profligacy of the Chinese emperors and the equally unrestrained ignorance and arrogance of the British colonialists. There is scheming and plots within plots as players in the Chinese dynasties kill their own progeny to ensure a malleable emperor will succeed. The plundering by the British of the old Imperial summer palace is shocking, and the primitive warfare of the Kachin in Burma is horrifying. Levy and Scott-Clark's descriptions put the reader right into the midst of the action: the writing is so effective that you can feel the clinging humidity of the Burmese jungle as 19th century British explorers plod along in search for the mines from whence the jadeite is extracted.
Also of tremendous interest were the passages about the Dowager Empress Cixi. If all you know about the last emperor Pu Yi is from the wonderful movie "The Last Emperor," this book will help round out some of the events and issues driving the Pu Yi story along that were alluded to in the movie. Besides, the movie's only allusion to Cixi is in the very beginning when the toddler Pu Yi is brought to the Forbidden City. Levy and Scott-Clark reveal to the reader from where Cixi came and how her desire for the jadeite was often at the core of her political machinations.
And then there are the final chapters that reveal a scenario so horrifying, so shocking that even the surrealistic visions of Francis Ford Coppola in "Apocolypse Now" cannot compare.
This is definitely the best book I've read so far this year, and probably the best book I've read in the past five years. After reading this book you will not be able to look at another piece of jadeite, no matter how beautiful, and not whince because now you know the stone's infamous history.

Jade: builder, and destroyer, of empires
    By VampireCowboy
This was a strange book that was oddly compelling. It was really like two books in one: 70% history devoted to the superstitions surrounding jade, its history -- in terms of mining -- and the way the pursuit of the precious stone shaped countries, careers, and legends. The other 30% was more like a first person mystery and a journalistic effort to expose current conditions in jade producing mines.

It seems an odd balance. I wish the authors had devoted more to the 70% and less to the 30%, which could have been a book in its own right.

Still, it was packed with the kind of illuminating bits information I find so intriguing and makes for a reading experience much like mining - pursuing seams for hidden treasures. It was also overflowing with decadent imperial courts thrown into disarray by modernity (it would seem), war looters, and dealers in antiquities which raised many questions about the current repatriation of plundered and even "legally" purchased archaeological and national works of art.

What I like best about works of history is learning nuggets of information and making connections for myself. The Stone of Heaven facilitated that.
