Fantastic visuals, perfect for all children

I grew up in the days of Waldo and the original Incredible Cross Sections. These are great books that not only provide fun enjoyment, but also open up curiosity to learn more about the history or civilizations before ours and the world around us. This book has plenty of highly detailed drawings that can been revisited again and again for additional learning and entertainment. Highly Recommended for kids of all ages (adults too)!

Geared more towards kids, but still enjoyable

Although it doesn't quite reach the same level of excellence as Stephen Biesty's earlier works, this is still a fun little book for his fans. I enjoyed the detailed cut-away and exploded views of famous ancient buildings such as the Roman Colosseum and the Greek Acropolis, and the many little insights into ancient life and religion. The storytelling in these three books is rather simple and follows the same pattern in each book, but since they're geared more towards kids, I can't complain too much. There's nothing too terribly graphic here, although some people might get a little grossed out by the 11-step depiction of the mummification process. Then again, I've always loved Stephen Biesty's artwork simply BECAUSE it's so honest about how people lived in the past. I also loved all the ships, boats, and seaports depicted in the artwork. What can I say? I'm a total ship geek!
Not a bad way to spend an hour or two learning about ancient history with your little ones. The individual books are overpriced, but this compilation is a bargain.

This is a wonderful supplementary text for our ancient history study

This is a wonderful supplementary text for our ancient history study. Each ancient civilization, namely Egypt, Greece and Rome, is presented in an interesting story of a young child's travel. This made the book not only informative but lively. History is not just a study of facts but a way to set our imagination alive with the sights and sounds of the past. My only complain is that the art work is so detailed and small that we need a magnifying glass to study all of it. Of course, if it was enlarged, the book would be too cumbersome for a child to read, so I think this is still the best.
