Back in time with the Lakota

I have been reading this series with my nephew for the last year or so. Our favorite so far was the Titanic installment, but this one was very good as well. We learned about the legend of white buffalo woman, the fate of the buffalo, the uses of the buffalo and the real name of buffalo (bison). The illustrations by Sal Murdocca are vivid and add a lot to these books. Especially refreshing in this book was that the Lakota are not made to speak like illiterates but use the language as ably as Jack and Annie. This time around, Jack has his nose in a book the whole time while Annie is more adventurous. Jack does come to the rescue of his Lakota guide, however, and earns the name "Rides Like Wind." Jack's notetaking ought to help young readers learn the fundamentals of writing reports, and his research reveals some of the most interesting facts. Both my nephew and I learn something from The Magic Tree House books. I for one went to bed that night with visions of the Plains grass undulating like a sea. I hope Mary Pope Osborne, like Barbara Park, continues writing letters to her readers in each book.

My students begged for more!

In the course of this easy chapter-book adventure, two young explorers magically travel to the Great Plains of the U.S., to a Lakota village. There they learn of Lakota customs and beliefs, gain an appreciation for the Lakota ways, learn about a part of U.S. history not always taught to elementary students, and model respect for a culture different from their own. Readers will enjoy exciting elements of an impending buffalo stampede, a wild rescue on horseback, and a sighting of the legendary White Buffalo Woman. Although the children are needing to complete a task to help free a dog as a part of a larger story (books #17-#20), this book stands on its own pretty well too. My first grade students were fascinated when I read this book aloud, and begged for more. I'm planning to increase the number of Magic Tree House books in my classroom this coming year.

Fantastic As Buffalo Themselves!

This is one of my favorites, probably my 3rd. I like buffalo and Indians, especially because of what fun they cause on good western movies, like "How The West Was Won", and the Indians got of to a good start in "Stagecoach", "The War Wagon", and especially "The Pony Express. Another reason why this book exceeds 5,000 stars is because of all the fun there is, it seems like a Hardy Boys book rather than a learning book. But for some reason I'm starting to think that the more action there is in a Magic Tree House book, the more learning topics the book has. Definitely one of the Top Five, too good to say Top Ten.

About the Author
Paige Baltzan teaches in the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. She holds a B.S.B.A. specializing in Accounting/MIS from Bowling Green State University and an M.B.A. specializing in MIS from the University of Denver. Paige also teaches online at Strayer University. She is the co-author of several books, including Business Driven Technology, Essentials of Business Driven Information Systems, I-Series, and a contributor to Management Information Systems for the Information Age. Before joining the Daniels College faculty in 1999, Paige spent several years working for a large telecommunications company and an international consulting firm where she participated in client engagements in the United States, as well as South America and Europe. Paige lives in Lakewood, Colorado, with her husband, Tony, and daughters, Hannah and Sophie.

Great sub for ISBN: 9780073376905

I bought this book because I did not want to purchase the original one (ISBN 13: 9780073376905) at full price of over $200. This may be the "International Student Edition for use outside of the U.S.", but it worked perfectly for my DAC1 (Information Systems Management) course. After Chapter 20, it starts naming the Chapters by it's Plug-In title but if you look at the subtitle, it would still matches the regular Chapter names. I am glad that I spent a little over $40 on this book than buying it at full price of the original textbook.

Worked For What I Needed It For

I got this for my MIS class at PSU. We only used a few pages in it, and I really didn't need the book it seems. Though, it was the exact same book as the "American" edition, just a different cover and a cheaper price. Win for me.

Rindra Ramamonjison is a fourth year PhD student of electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He received his master's degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology. This book is easy to read with a promise to provide step by step procedures to learn Apache Spark Graph Processing. To the most extent, Mr. Rindra Ramamonjison fulfills the promise. There are several errors in the book as such reader gets confused and can not be followed through the text. For example, spark-1.4.1-bin-hadoop2.6.tgz does not have the directories: core, graphx, mllib, sql, and streaming in SPARKHOME. Also, in the directory data, there are no files such as people.csv and links.csv.

Apart from the above superficial errors, the book met my expectation to learn Graph Processing.

Very helpful

I borrowed this book from my sister about 4 years ago and never gave it back. I bought one for her and my mother recently. The 3 of us tend to have "piles" in our houses. Not hoarders (for real), but definitely clutterers.

This book is the first one I've read that outlined a plan that made sense to me. The first time I opened the book and the author talked about her childhood bedroom with the turquoise linoleum floor and how everything was stuffed under her bed, in her closet and in her desk (and all over the room floor, too), I knew the book would be a fun read (being a child of the 70s and linoleum flooring myself).

My two-room apartment had "goat paths" one could use - every other part of the floor was covered with needlessness, as was every flat surface in the place. I read the book from cover to cover, took notes on how the author's system works, applied the system and to this day still use it. I'm not perfect - I still clutter, but it's down about 75% since before this system. I'll be moving by the end of 2014 to a new apartment, so I've taken the book out once again, knowing that I'm committed to pare down items that absolutely do not need to move with me.

There are no more goat paths and I've used the system to really clear out the closets - the closets were useless because there was so much unused/not-going-to-be-used stuff in them. Once I was able to clear them out it was easier to apply the organizing portion of the book.

Best organizing book I've ever read; super helpful

Wow, I finally found a GREAT book about the underlying reasons why we struggle so much with getting -- and staying -- organized.

Most of my co-workers think I'm really organized, but at home things were a mess. I just hid the mess inside closets and drawers. Reading this book helped me start tackling each room methodically, one area, one shelf or drawer, one little piece at a time. A key insight is that each thing must "have a place." I was constantly losing my keys, reading glasses, favorite earrings, checkbook, and cell phone -- but now after reading this book I have a designated place for everything. This makes it so easy to find them! For example, now I have one little drawer for all my reading glasses and I've found over 20 pair in the past couple of months that used to be scattered all over the place.

I also love the book's idea of creating "zones" -- like a "money zone" in my office where I now keep all my financial records, checkbook, spare change, and bills to pay. I also created a "gift zone" where I keep presents and wrapping paper and boxes, a "fix-it zone" where I keep my tools, glue, and various broken things that need to be fixed, and a "play zone" for all the jigsaw puzzles, board games, and scrapbooking supplies that I like to play with in my spare time.

I really enjoyed the inner work that the first few chapters addressed, such as what are the costs of being disorganized and what would my life be like if I were organized? So many books about getting organized address only the "technique" (like divide your clutter into "keep" or "donate" or "toss"), but this one really dives deep into why it matters and how to build on what already works in your life. It made me feel increasingly successful as I continued to work through the excellent exercises in the book. I've only been using it for 3 months but my life and belongings are already SO much more organized, and I feel so much less stressed.

The author Julie Morgenstern makes getting organized fun and fascinating. I've already recommended this to many friends. Well written, funny, human, and a huge help!

The best purchase I have ever made in my whole life.

I can quite honestly say this book changed my life. I grew up in the most chaotic, disorganized household you could imagine. My mother is a hoarder, so basic organization skills were completely absent from my upbringing, and I struggled against this for the better part of my adult life. I seriously used to wonder how the "normal people" lived. It affected every area of my life, as you may well imagine.

That is, until I got this book! In here, she doesn't teach you one system; she teaches you how to create YOUR OWN systems. She taught me the skills that my mother, God love her, never could. People now make fun of me because of how organized my spaces are, and then ask me to organize theirs! Since buying this book roughly 6 years ago, I have become one of those annoying people who are capable of keeping their glass front cabinets, shelving, and drawers in near perfect order with minimal effort. It's absolutely crazy, but 100% true. This was far and away the best purchase I have EVER made. I recently bought two more copies to give as Christmas gifts to my mom and sister. Hopefully it will have as big an impact on them as it did on me!

About the Author

Somewhat Disappointing

I've been a fan of Christine Warren's series of "The Others" from the beginning - but this latest novel fails to deliver... Overall the book is short with a lack of storyline. The characters are not very engaging and the intimate moments are definitely lacking (compared to other steamy scenes in her previous stories). There is absolutely no build-up of the relationship between the two main characters, which gives no anticiapation/excitement and no feeling of chemistry between the two. The main female character comes off very "bitchy" and not very likable. Also quite a few spelling errs?? which totally threw me off... I'm still hopeful that her next novel will be a triumphant come-back (ala ~ Missy & Graham in Big Bad Wolf)

If you are not what I expected, can you still be everything I need?

When your Queen gives you an assignment, regardless of your thoughts on the matter you go. For Luc Macanaw that meant crossing utilizing a portal to go from the land of the Fae to the human world and retrieve the Queen's nephew who decided to party on the other side.

Luc is a leader who always takes his assignment seriously letting nothing deter him from his objective. So meeting Corinne D'Alessandro and being thrown off his game is a shocker he never saw coming. Luc should not be attracted to Corinne for pity sake she is human. The other problem is she is chasing down the same object from a different perspective though as the reporter assigned to figure out what is going on. Corinne already knows about the non-humans on earth staying under the radar and swore to stay away from a relationship with any of them. She never expected any spark with a non-human but Luc is definitely pushing every go after him button she has with some red flags but mostly passion on all fronts. Could they have something together or is this an attraction Luc has conquered up from his bag magic?

The task is difficult for the two of them even working together as the witnesses start showing up murdered or missing. It is difficult to trace a lead under the best of circumstances but not even having a verification of the facts makes it almost impossible. The Others existence must be kept a secret so the pursuit becomes even more critical when more people start to notice the unusual activity but Luc knows Corinne has the same agenda and trust is not an issue.

This book is so much more than demons with secrets it is a romantic interlude that will enchant as well as romance you. With a well-defined and detailed storyline, this book makes for a great read, as you are able to feel the passion and the danger all at the same time.

This book came up in my Amazon recommendations list. I snatched it up because it looked good, only to read it and find that it was the best Fae book I had ever read.
Christine Warren is an amazing story teller. Her characters are witty, strong, independent, and identifiable and her story is well crafted and fluid.
I found out after starting this book that it is actually the 12th of the Others series, but I wasn't lost at all (though I did read somewhere that this was actually a rewrite of a story done with Ellora's Cave and therefore was more standalone than the other of the series).
Corinne is a reporter with multiple friends who have become involved with or married members of the supernatural community. She has basically sworn that while she loves them, she will never be one to date outside of her species.
Luc is the captain of the guard for Queen Mab of the Summer Court. He is sent to the human realm to find and bring home the queen's nephew, Seoc, before he can cause too much trouble and spill the secret of the Others.
The minute Luc sees Corinne he feels something he has never felt before, and 1 touch is all it takes for him to know that it's more than just idle attraction. Once some things are brought to light, Luc can no longer deny that Corinne is his heartmate and he knows that he'll do anything to keep her by his side.
Corinne plays coy and puts on a good poker face, but she can't deny the feelings that Luc imparts. After teaming up to find Seoc together, thus getting her story for her boss, keeping her friends safe and helping Luc with his mission, one things leads to another and she is helpless to do anything but feel.
LITERAL ADDICTION gives Not your Ordinary Faerie Tale 5 skulls and would recommend it to everyone - Paranormal Romance lovers, Urban Fantasy readers, and anyone who likes strong, witty female leads, sexy, alpha, sensitive male leads, and a story with just enough twists and turns to keep you engaged from the 1st to the last page.

The Mustang is an automotive icon with more than two million cars built between 1964-1973. Mustangs, such as the Shelby GT350 and GT500, Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet and Boss 302 and 429 ruled the street, but many thousands of common six cylinder and small V-8 Mustangs hit the highways and byways as well. These 40 plus year-old cars use antiquated equipment that includes drum brakes, breaker point ignition systems, and 14-inch skinny steel wheels. The OEM running gear is obsolete by today's standards and all of these Mustangs can transform into high-performance street machines that can compete with late-model Mustangs.

While some owners choose to preserve their Mustangs through an original restoration, other owners have transformed their Mustangs into true driving machines by installing aftermarket suspension, steering, and driveline technology. Many owners have performed bolt-on upgrades that don't affect originality, while other owners have completed more extensive projects that modify and seriously upgrade these cars. The first-generation Mustang is an enduring classic but it was built using 50-year-old technology. Great pictures and builds

I really love all the descriptions about the different parts that can be used. I also like all the pictures of the parts and depicting the steps to do some upgrades. The thing I liked the most though, was the different vehicle setups depending on what you want your car to be. From street racer to daily driver it has the best parts to use to accomplish it.

It's very well organized and written, it's a outstanding read for an entry level (me) or for a high intermediate Mustang enthusiast! The book has 13 easy to understand chapters covering everything from wheel selection to interior gauges; engine, suspension, yeah, it's all there! Mr. Bohanan also breaks each chapter into 3 performance levels: 1. daily driver, 2. daily driver with a kick and 3."Hey mama, We 'er going to the track today! Would I buy it again? You betcha. Thanks Mr. Bohanan

Great Mustang Performance Projects

Geez, I wish I still had my 1966 Mustang, but then I have wished that many times in the years since I sold it. The projects outlined in this book address every dream from great daily driver to all out racer . How much do you (can you) want to spend. Really, just knowing you can convert to rack and pinion steering without re-engineering the whole front end is one thing I always thought I would do if.... Now at least I know it is possible.
If the book has any fault I could find, it is that the captions occasionally do not match the pictures. For instance on page43 the caption cites a distributerless ignition system but the picture is clearly of the components of a distributer and its components. In the same vain, page 70 and page72 both have the same picture but on 70 the picture in the upper right corner is of a short throw shifter(according to the caption) and on page 72 in the lower right corner the same picture is called a clutch pedal support.
But overall, still a great book. If you can, do it! Or, like me keep planning__it could happen. But get the BOOK! ( )

Watch out for the typos!!

I question the accuracy of this whole book after looking at the top 300 drugs. For example, they have the following:
Ergocalciferol = Hyzaar
Amitriptyline = catapres
Ketoconazole = Prevacid
Codeine/promethazine = armour thyriod
And many more bad typos like those! I wonder which ones I'm memorizing wrong that I don't realize. I paid so much for this book and I had no clue I was paying for so many typos. So frustrating! The calculations chapter is very helpful. It would be nice if they could send the corrections that need to be made. Most chapters are a good review.

A lot of typos but good source for naplex review than kaplan. Ordered a new condition from rxprep for $168 but arrived in a dusty condition with front cover folded. Disappointed for the condition of the book.
